Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51 Million Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The exciting 11-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s memorable contest averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It additionally is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M viewers, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match series averaged over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen audience increases for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total US viewership was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and the network’s best playoff performance since 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 different tongues.
